October 12, 2014 all roads led to St. Luke Kibuye the seat of Mengo Archdeaconry to crown the CWF events in Namirembe Diocese.
Ven Gitta hands over a certificate to one of the past CWF leaders

The whole area was painted by a human sea of green and yellow, the colours of the Christian Women's Fellowship (CWF) in Namirembe Diocese. The ladies were clad in their green gomesi's with a yellow waist sash. while the young ladies wore green dresses with yellow collars. From a distance you would think that the green plants had blossomed yellow flowers. It was a sight worth seeing. The clergy also put on green stoles to march the colours of the day.

It was a service of praising and worshipping the Lord God and above all to remember the patron of the Christian Women Fellowship (CWF) Mary Magdalene.  According to BBC Mary Magdalene travelled with Jesus as one of his followers. She was present at the two most important moments in the story of Jesus: The Crucifixion and the resurrection.

Ven John Gitta Kavuma welcomes guests
During the service led by the Archdeacon of Mengo Archdeaconry Ven. John Gitta Kavuma, assisted by the Assistant Archdeacon Rev. Kezekiah Walusimbi, the Coordinator of CWF in the Diocese Rev. GBK Buwembo, Rev. Moses Kayimba, Rev. James Kaana and Rev. Fred Lubega, Christians sang their voices horse in praise of the Lord Jesus Christ.

CWF members from Mengo Archdeaconry, Lutikko Deanery, Luzira Archdeaconry, Entebbe Archdeaconry, Kazo Archdeaconry, Nateete Archdeaconry and Gayaza Archdeaconry attended in big numbers. The number of attendants were close to 3000. This number couldn't fit in the small St. Luke Church at Kibuye, so the organisers  decided to have the service in the Church Gardens.

In her sermon, the guest of honour who is also the President of the Christian Women's Fellowship in Namirembe Diocese, Mrs. Male based her sermon on 2 Tim 3:1 which talks about people loving themselves.

She said that these days people are no longer working as a team because amongst the women folk many of them are ever engaging in rumours. She was not happy that men had shied away from the festivities leaving them to women.

She said that nowadays women spend 80% of their time engaging in idle talk and rumor mongering. She requested women to always be straight forward instead of talking ill of their friends.
She said that there’s a group of women who are busy engaging in abusing others as if that is their profession. And she went on to say that some women in the villages are hired to abuse others. She said that as members of the Christian Women’s Fellowship, women ought to be an example to the rest of the people like their patron Mary Magdalene used to be.

She thanked her boss at Kitebi Secondary School Haji Ssebijjo who is a Muslim for always allowing her to leave office and go to attend CWF meetings at Namirembe.

Mrs. Margaret Magumba- Head of Laity Mengo Archdeaconry
She also said that women today have become traitors because they no longer love one another. She said that it was high time they stopped being traitors and turned back to God.
At the same occasion, the chairperson of CWF in Mengo Archdeaconry, Mrs Nanfuka called upon women to ensure that they entice the young ladies to join CWF because they are the leaders of tomorrow. This call was further echoed by the Head of Laity Mrs. Margaret Magumba and the Archdeacon of Mengo Ven. John Gitta Kavuma.

They said that it was important to have the girls in the organization so that they are well nurtured to become leaders of the church now and in the future.

Mengo Archdeaconry staff hold their meeting at Katuuso Buziga

Mengo Archdeaconry Staff meeting held at Katuuso Parish on  Wednesday 17th September 2014
The meeting was preceded by a communion service led by Rev. Herbert Zziwa Ssalongo the Parish Priest of Kabowa Parish. His sermon was based on Luke 10:23  Then turning to the disciples he said privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see!  For I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.”
Rev. Herbert Zziwa Ssalongo preaching at Katuuso

He said that Jesus said these words as he was talking to his Disciples before they started their ministry. He said that these people were from diverse backgrounds. Some were fishermen who were used to beach life which has a lot of filths. The other group belonged to revenue collection, which group was used to people who were ever complaining about over taxation and people who were defaulting taxes. He went on to say that other people like Luke the physician, were used to sick people who were ever wailing and suffering from incurable and curable diseases.
Rev. Zziwa brought the point home to the church ministers to try and reflect on their ministry and remember where they have come from and relate it to the ministry today.

He challenged the Church ministers present to ask themselves “what are my eyes blessed to see today?” he said “that once you realize what you are seeing spiritually, you will be able to minister to the people what God is making you to see”

Mr. Kisinde welcomes the priests at his home
He went on to narrate that some Christians these days might not be able to see the fruits of the Holy Spirit in the work of the Priest and Lay Reader. He therefore challenged fellow priests to be able to do what God has called them to do. He then gave them advice to spare sometime daily to seek God’s face so that people see something different whenever they preach the gospel.

On his part, the parish priest of Katuuso Rev. James Kaana and Maama Edith Kaana welcomed the Archdeacon and the entire archdeaconry staff to Katuuso and asked them to feel at home.

The Archdeacon of Mengo, Ven. John Gitta Kavuma welcomed the priests to the meeting and thanked Rev. Kaana for accepting to host the staff meeting in his Parish. In a special way, he welcomed the wives of the priests and thanked them for sparing time to come and support their husbands in God’s work. He said that the wives of the priests contribute 90% of the whole Ministry and without them, the pastoral work generally becomes difficult.

He thanked Rev. Kezekia Kaweesa the Assistant Archdeacon for standing in the gap, when he was away in Turkey. He said that during the tour to Turkey, he was able to see the churches John wrote about in the book of Revelations up to the Island of Patmos. He said that Turkey is regarded as the second most holy place but out of the 140,000 churches that used to be in that Country, non is still functional, they were either turned into Mosques or museums and called on the Church to pray to see that Christianity flourishes in that country.

After the service, the priests and their wives drove to Buziga Hill, in a serene environment at the home of Mr. Johnson & Mrs. Mukasa Kisinde for a sumptuous breakfast and thereafter, to have their meetings in the green gardens of the Kisindes.

St. Thomas Church Of Uganda, Kibutika (Anglican)

Sunday 3rd August 2014 will always remain an historical day for the people of Kibutika Church of Uganda in Kabowa Parish. It is the day, the Archdeacon of Mengo Ven. John Gitta Kavuma officially opened this Church as the newest in the Archdeaconry.

Brief Report

1. HISTORICAL BACK GROUND OF THE CHURCH
An evangelistic team from St. John’s Church, Ndejje (South of Kampala, Uganda, East Africa) organized an evangelistic outreach in this area and discovered that the area was remote and far away from the existing church. One Christian couple Mr. and Mrs. Kityo offered their compound temporarily to begin a church. On Sunday 8th September 2013, the first service was conducted under a tree shade and was attended by 9 people. The following Sunday a small tent was hired together with chairs. Later as more people joined, funds were raised to buy a 100 seater tent.

2. ACHIEVEMENTS

a. Evangelism
More people have received Christ and more have joined the church. We now have about eighty
(80) Christians on the church list with about sixty (60) in children’s church.
b. Giving
The few available Christians have worked had, bought a tent, church chairs and are now raising money to buy land for construction of a church.
c. A vibrant church choir has been formed.
3. APPRECIATION
We thank all Christians who have given sacrificially towards this church ministry. We also thank Rev. Hebert Zziwa, the parish priest, Mr. Mayombwe, the lay leader and the Christians of St. John Church. We thank Mr. and Mrs. Kityo for offering their home where Christians fellowship. we also thank the management and staff of Abesther primary school for offering a class which is used as children church every Sunday.
